We were delighted to appoint Lydia Pugh as Conductor and Musical Director in September 2016, following the footsteps of her mother into this position.
Lydia brings and enthusiasm to the choir as her primary passion is the voice. Alongside working as a singer and writing songs, another huge part of Lydia's career is vocal coaching. She has taught since she was 14, firstly at St Martin's Music Hub in Guernsey and more recently at the Guernsey School of Popular Music. Lydia studied for a BA in music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) where she first started songwriting. She often uses this talent to compose and adapt songs for the Glees to sing.
In 2016 Lydia was awarded the John Owen Jones Award: a scholarship presented by The Voice College (previously known as VIDLA), enabling her to study for the Advanced Diploma in Teaching Contemporary Singing. This knowledge is used to enhance the tonal quality of the Glees Singers and she teaches the Glees where to place and shape their voices introducing breathing techniques and vocal exercises.
